Heart Health Awareness
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among young adults and often goes undetected until it’s too late. Through the John Welby Memorial Fund, we are committed to raising awareness, encouraging early detection, and supporting access to lifesaving heart screenings in our communities.
About Heart Health
Heart disease is a condition that affects the heart’s structure and function and is the leading cause of death in the United States. While many people associate it with older adults, heart conditions can also affect young adults often without warning. Many cases go undetected because symptoms can be mild, unclear, or nonexistent until a serious event occurs. Early awareness and regular heart screenings can help save lives.
Our Mission & Impact
The John Welby Memorial Fund was created in loving of Johnathan, who passed away unexpectedly at 26 from undiagnosed heart disease. Our mission is to raise awareness of heart health in young adults and support efforts that make early detection more accessible.
We focus on bringing attention to silent heart conditions and helping fund initiatives such as community heart screenings, education programs, and partnerships with organizations that can provide preventative care.
Prevention, Screening & Action
Prevention and early detection are key to protecting heart health, especially in young adults where conditions can often go unnoticed. Regular checkups, knowing your family history, and paying attention to symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath are important first steps.
Heart screenings such as blood pressure checks, EKGs, and cholesterol testing can help detect issues early, and they are available through primary care doctors, cardiologists, local hospitals, and community health screening events, including many options across New Jersey.
